What is the origin of the Olympic Games?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 11

The Olympic Games originated in ancient Greece around 776 BCE in Olympia. They were held every four years in honour of Zeus, the king of the gods. Athletes from various Greek city-states competed in events such as running, wrestling, and chariot racing. The games were a symbol of unity and peace, with a sacred truce observed during the competitions. The modern Olympics, revived in 1896 by Pierre de Coubertin, continue this legacy, bringing together athletes from around the world. The ancient games also inspired many traditions still seen today, such as the Olympic flame and the awarding of medals.
