What causes sand dunes to move?

Sand dunes move due to the action of wind. As wind blows across the surface, it picks up loose sand particles and deposits them on the other side of the dune. This process, called saltation, causes dunes to shift gradually over time. The shape and speed of movement depend on wind strength, direction, and the type of sand. Migrating dunes are a dynamic feature of desert and coastal landscapes.
