What causes sandstorms?

  • 👁️ 59

Sandstorms occur when strong winds lift and carry loose sand and dust particles from the ground. They are common in arid and semi-arid regions where vegetation is sparse, and the soil is dry. Sandstorms can be triggered by thunderstorms, cold fronts, or high-pressure systems that create powerful gusts. These storms reduce visibility, impact air quality, and can travel great distances, sometimes crossing continents. Preventative measures, such as planting vegetation, can help stabilise soil and reduce the frequency of sandstorms.
