What causes auroras to form near the poles?

  • 👁️ 10

Auroras form near the poles when charged particles from the Sun interact with Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere. These particles are channelled toward the polar regions, where they collide with gases like oxygen and nitrogen, releasing energy as light. This process produces stunning displays of green, red, and purple colours. Auroras are most visible during periods of high solar activity, such as solar storms.
