What causes ocean waves to form?
- ๐๏ธ 8
Ocean waves form when wind blows across the surface of the water, transferring energy to create ripples that grow into waves. The size of the waves depends on wind speed, duration, and the distance over which it blows (fetch). Underwater disturbances, such as earthquakes or landslides, can also generate waves, including tsunamis. Waves play a critical role in shaping coastlines and mixing ocean layers.
