Why do rivers sometimes change course?
- ๐๏ธ 14
Rivers change course due to erosion, sediment deposition, and shifts in the surrounding landscape. As water flows, it erodes the outer banks of bends and deposits sediment on the inner banks, causing the river to meander over time. Natural events like floods or earthquakes can also force rivers to carve new paths. Human activities, such as dam construction and land use changes, may influence or accelerate this process.
