What causes lightning to strike tall objects?
- ๐๏ธ 6
Lightning strikes tall objects because they provide the shortest path between the charged cloud and the ground. As a thunderstorm develops, the cloud becomes negatively charged at its base, inducing a positive charge on tall objects below. When the electrical field becomes strong enough, a discharge occurs, forming a lightning bolt. Lightning rods are often installed on tall buildings to safely direct the electricity into the ground and prevent damage.
