What causes tsunamis to form?
- ๐๏ธ 11
Tsunamis form due to sudden displacement of large volumes of water, often caused by underwater earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. When the seafloor shifts, it displaces water above, creating waves that spread outward at high speeds. As these waves approach shallower coastal areas, they grow taller and more destructive. Tsunamis can cause widespread damage and flooding, especially in low-lying regions.
