When was the Great Wall of China built?
- ๐๏ธ 8
The construction of the Great Wall of China began during the 7th century BCE, but the most well-known sections were built during the Ming dynasty (1368โ1644). The wall was constructed to protect Chinese states and empires from invasions by nomadic groups from the north. It stretches over 21,000 kilometres and includes watchtowers, fortresses, and beacon towers. Built using a combination of stone, brick, and wood, it is considered one of the greatest architectural feats in human history. The Great Wall also facilitated trade and communication along the Silk Road. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of Chinaโs cultural heritage.
