The deepest lake in the world is Lake Baikal, located in Siberia, Russia. It has a maximum depth of 1,642 metres (5,387 feet) and is also the largest freshwater lake by volume, containing about 20% of the worldโ€™s unfrozen freshwater. Lake Baikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to unique species, including the Baikal seal (Pusa sibirica). Formed over 25 million years ago, it is also one of the oldest lakes on Earth. Its pristine waters and biodiversity make it an important ecological treasure.
