- ๐๏ธ 10
The Amazon Rainforest is primarily located in South America, spanning nine countries: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Covering approximately 5.5 million square kilometres, it is the largest rainforest in the world. The Amazon is often referred to as the “lungs of the Earth” because it produces 20% of the planetโs oxygen through photosynthesis. It is home to an estimated 10% of all known species on Earth, including jaguars, macaws, and the giant river otter. The Amazon River, the second-longest river in the world, flows through this dense forest. The rainforest plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s climate by storing vast amounts of carbon dioxide.
