Why do chameleons change color?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 6

Chameleons change color primarily for communication, camouflage, and temperature regulation. Their skin contains special cells called chromatophores, which contain different pigments. By expanding or contracting these cells, chameleons can alter their color to blend into their surroundings and avoid predators. They also change color to signal moods, attract mates, or establish dominance. Temperature and light conditions also influence color changes, as darker colors help absorb heat, while lighter colors reflect it.
