How do butterflies migrate?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 12

Butterflies, particularly species like the monarch butterfly, migrate long distances to find suitable breeding grounds and avoid harsh winter conditions. Monarchs travel from North America to central Mexico, covering up to 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles). Their migration is guided by a combination of environmental cues, including the Sun, the Earth’s magnetic field, and wind patterns. Butterflies use thermal currents to help them glide and conserve energy during their journey, often traveling in large groups known as “roosts.”
