How do jellyfish catch their prey?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 7

Jellyfish catch their prey using their long, sticky tentacles, which are equipped with specialized cells called nematocysts. These cells release toxins when triggered by contact with prey or predators. As jellyfish float through the water, they passively catch small fish, plankton, and other microscopic organisms. Some species, like the lionโ€™s mane jellyfish, have tentacles that can stretch several meters, allowing them to capture prey over a wide area. Once prey is ensnared, jellyfish use their tentacles to move the food toward their mouths for consumption.
