What is the largest land carnivore?
71
The largest land carnivore is the polar bear (Ursus maritimus), which can weigh between 350 and 700 kilograms (770 to 1,540 pounds) and measure up to 3 metres (10 feet) in length. Polar bears are found in the Arctic, where they hunt seals on the sea ice. They have thick fur and a layer of fat that insulates them from the cold. Despite their size, polar bears are strong swimmers and can cover great distances in search of food. Climate change poses a threat to their habitat, as melting sea ice limits their hunting grounds.
