How do giraffes live?

  • 👁️ 40

Giraffes are herbivores native to the savannas and woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. They are the tallest land animals, with males reaching up to 18 feet tall and females slightly shorter. Giraffes live in loose social groups called herds, typically consisting of females and their young, while males often live more solitary lives or form bachelor groups. They feed primarily on leaves, particularly from acacia trees, which they can reach due to their long necks. Giraffes eat up to 65 pounds of food a day. They drink water infrequently, getting much of their hydration from the leaves they consume. Giraffes reproduce sexually, with females giving birth to a single calf after a gestation period of about 15 months. Calves are born standing and are able to walk within a few hours of birth.
