Why do flamingos stand on one leg?
- ๐๏ธ 11
Flamingos often stand on one leg as a way to conserve body heat. By tucking one leg close to their body, they reduce heat loss in the cool water where they typically wade. This behaviour is also thought to help flamingos maintain balance while resting. Interestingly, flamingos can lock their leg joints, allowing them to stand in this position with minimal effort. This unique posture has intrigued scientists and is an adaptation to their aquatic lifestyle.
