How do manatees live?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 13

Manatees, also known as sea cows, are herbivorous marine mammals found in shallow coastal waters, rivers, and estuaries. They are slow-moving animals, grazing on seagrasses, algae, and other aquatic plants, consuming up to 10% of their body weight in food each day. Manatees live in warm waters and migrate to cooler regions during colder months. They are social creatures, though not as highly social as other marine mammals, and they communicate through vocalizations like chirps, whistles, and squeals. Manatees reproduce once every 2-5 years, with females giving birth to a single calf after a 12-month gestation period. Calves stay close to their mothers for about 1-2 years before becoming independent.
