How do jellyfish sting their prey?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 7

Jellyfish sting their prey using specialised cells called cnidocytes, located on their tentacles. These cells contain nematocysts, which are tiny, coiled harpoons filled with venom. When triggered by touch or chemical signals, the nematocysts shoot out, injecting venom into the prey. The venom immobilises or kills the prey, making it easier for the jellyfish to capture and digest it. While jellyfish stings can be painful or dangerous to humans, they are an essential hunting mechanism for these marine creatures.
