How do lizards regrow their tails?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 5

Lizards regrow their tails through a process called autotomy and regeneration. When threatened, they voluntarily detach their tail at a specific break point, distracting predators. The severed tail wiggles due to residual nerve activity, allowing the lizard to escape. Over time, the lizard regenerates a new tail using specialised cells at the wound site. While the new tail may differ in colour and texture, it restores some functionality.
