Why do elephants have tusks?
- ๐๏ธ 8
Elephants have tusks for a variety of purposes, including digging for water, stripping bark from trees, and defending themselves against predators. Tusks, which are elongated incisor teeth, also play a role in social interactions, such as establishing dominance within a herd. Male elephants, or bulls, often use their tusks in mating contests. Unfortunately, tusks make elephants a target for poaching, highlighting the need for conservation efforts to protect these iconic animals.
