How do polar bears hunt in the Arctic?
- ๐๏ธ 5
Polar bears primarily hunt seals in the Arctic, relying on a method called “still hunting.” They use their keen sense of smell to detect seals breathing through air holes in the ice. The bears wait patiently near these breathing holes, sometimes for hours, before striking when the seal surfaces for air. Polar bears are also skilled swimmers and can cover long distances in search of food. Their thick fur and layer of fat help them survive the extreme cold temperatures while hunting on the ice.
