How do sloths live?
- ๐๏ธ 13
Sloths are slow-moving mammals native to Central and South America, living primarily in the tropical rainforests of these regions. They are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees, where they feed on leaves, fruits, and flowers. Sloths have a low metabolic rate and require very little food, eating only a small amount of leaves each dayโoften consuming just one kilogram (about 2.2 pounds) per week. Their diet is not very nutrient-dense, so they move slowly to conserve energy. Sloths spend around 20 hours a day sleeping. They reproduce sexually, with females giving birth to a single baby after a gestation period of about 6 months for two-toed sloths or 12 months for three-toed sloths. The young cling to their mothers for several months after birth as they grow and learn the ways of the trees.
