How do skimmers live?
- ๐๏ธ 9
Skimmers are a group of seabirds found along coastlines, rivers, and wetlands across the Americas, Africa, and Asia. They are characterized by their long, thin beaks with the lower mandible being longer than the upper one. Skimmers are carnivorous, feeding primarily on small fish, which they catch by skimming their beaks just below the waterโs surface while flying. They are social birds, often nesting in colonies and using their sharp beaks to catch fish in shallow waters. Skimmers breed in colonies, with both parents taking turns incubating the eggs and feeding the chicks. They typically lay 2-3 eggs, and after hatching, the chicks are cared for by both parents until they can fly.
