Why do some animals shed their skin?
- ๐๏ธ 12
Some animals shed their skin as part of their growth and maintenance process. Reptiles like snakes shed their skin to accommodate their growing bodies, as their outer layer cannot expand. Amphibians shed to remove damaged skin and maintain health. Insects molt to transition between life stages, such as from larva to pupa. This shedding process, called ecdysis, ensures the animal’s skin remains functional and protective.
