How do opossums live?
- ๐๏ธ 6
Opossums are marsupials native to the Americas, particularly North and South America. They are nocturnal and solitary creatures, often found in wooded areas, forests, and urban environments. Opossums are omnivores, feeding on fruits, insects, small animals, and carrion. They are opportunistic foragers and can survive in a wide range of habitats. Opossums are known for their distinctive defense mechanism: playing dead, or “playing possum,” when threatened by predators. Mating occurs in the early spring, and after a gestation period of about 12-13 days, females give birth to up to 20 tiny, underdeveloped babies, which continue to develop in the mother’s pouch.
