Why do some animals have camouflaged skin?
- ๐๏ธ 8
Camouflaged skin helps animals blend into their surroundings to avoid predators or ambush prey. For example, chameleons change their skin colour to match their environment, while stick insects mimic twigs to evade detection. Camouflage can also be seasonal, as seen in Arctic foxes and hares, which develop white fur during winter. This adaptation increases survival by making animals less visible in their natural habitats.
