How do squid use their ink for defence?
- ๐๏ธ 8
Squid use ink as a defence mechanism to escape from predators. When threatened, they release a cloud of ink from an ink sac located near their digestive system. The ink creates a dark, opaque cloud in the water that obscures the predatorโs vision, allowing the squid to escape. Some squid species also change colour and use rapid jet propulsion to flee, further enhancing their chances of evading capture. The ink also contains compounds that can irritate the predator’s senses, providing an additional layer of protection.
