How do hedgehogs live?
- ๐๏ธ 10
Hedgehogs are small, nocturnal mammals found throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. They primarily inhabit woodlands, gardens, and grasslands. Hedgehogs are insectivores, feeding mainly on insects, worms, slugs, and other small invertebrates. They may also eat fruits and vegetables on occasion. To protect themselves from predators, hedgehogs have a distinctive coat of spines, which they can raise when threatened. Hedgehogs are solitary creatures, and during the colder months, they hibernate to conserve energy, often burrowing into leaves or underbrush for warmth. They reproduce sexually, with females giving birth to 4-6 hoglets (young hedgehogs) after a gestation period of around 30-40 days. The young are born blind and covered in soft spines that harden after a few days.
