Who invented the sewer system and when?

The concept of a sewer system dates back to ancient civilizations, but the first large-scale sewage system in the modern sense was built in London, England, in 1858. The system, known as the “Great Stink,” was designed by civil engineer Joseph Bazalgette to address the overwhelming problem of raw sewage in the streets, which was contributing to widespread disease. Bazalgette’s work was revolutionary, using large underground pipes to transport waste away from the city, which improved public health and sanitation. His sewer system became a model for modern urban sanitation systems around the world.
