Who invented the Internet and when?

The invention of the Internet is a complex story involving many contributors, but it is most commonly associated with Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn, who developed the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP) in the 1970s. These protocols allowed different networks to communicate with each other, laying the foundation for the modern Internet. In 1983, the ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet, adopted these protocols, which enabled multiple networks to connect. While the Internet evolved over several decades, Cerf and Kahn’s work in creating the foundation of communication between computers is what made the global network of interconnected systems possible. The World Wide Web, which popularized the Internet, was later developed by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.
