The zipper was invented by Whitcomb Judson, an American inventor, in 1893. Judson’s original design, which he called the “clasp locker,” was a bit unwieldy, but it was the first attempt at a fastener that could be operated with one hand. The modern zipper, as we know it today, was developed by Gideon Sundback, a Swedish-American engineer, in 1913. Sundback improved on Judson’s design, making it more reliable and efficient. The zipper became widely used in clothing, bags, and other products, revolutionizing fashion and manufacturing.
