Who invented the artificial heart and when?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 10

The first successful artificial heart was developed by Dr. Paul Winchell, an American ventriloquist and inventor, in 1956. Winchell’s mechanical heart was initially designed for implantation into humans, although it was never used in humans at that time. The first implantation of an artificial heart into a human occurred in 1982, when Dr. Barney Clark received a Jarvik-7 heart, developed by Dr. Robert Jarvik. This mechanical heart was used to temporarily replace a human heart while a transplant was awaited, and it marked a significant milestone in medical technology.
