How do porcupines live?
- ๐๏ธ 6
Porcupines are nocturnal rodents found in forests and grasslands throughout North and South America, Africa, and Asia. They are primarily herbivores, feeding on bark, leaves, fruits, and roots. Porcupines are solitary animals, and they use their sharp quills as a defense mechanism against predators. When threatened, a porcupine may raise its quills and charge at the attacker. Porcupines are good climbers and often spend time in trees, especially during the day when they rest. Mating occurs in late fall or winter, and after a gestation period of about 7 months, females give birth to 1-2 offspring. The young are born with soft quills that harden within hours, and they stay with the mother for several months before becoming independent.
