Why do some birds have bright feathers?
42
Bright feathers in birds are often a result of sexual selection, where males use vibrant colors to attract females. The brighter and more colorful a maleโs feathers are, the more likely he is to be chosen as a mate, as these colors often indicate good health, genetic fitness, and a strong immune system. Brightly colored feathers can also serve as a signal to other males, establishing territory and dominance. In some species, such as peacocks, males display their elaborate feathers to impress females during courtship rituals.
