How do frogs survive in freezing temperatures?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 10

Certain frogs, such as wood frogs, survive freezing temperatures by producing antifreeze-like substances, including glucose and urea. These compounds prevent ice from forming inside their cells, which would otherwise cause damage. Instead, ice forms in the spaces between cells, and their metabolism slows significantly. Frogs in this state appear lifeless but can thaw and return to normal activity when temperatures rise. This remarkable adaptation allows them to endure harsh winters.
