India is located in South Asia and shares borders with six countries. The total length of India’s border is approximately 15,200 kilometres. To the west, India shares borders with Pakistan (3,323 km), which includes the disputed region of Kashmir. In the north, India borders China (3,488 km), with which it has a complex history of territorial disputes, especially in the areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh. To the northeast, India shares a border with Nepal (1,751 km), Bhutan (699 km), and Bangladesh (4,096 km). In the east, India borders Myanmar (1,643 km). The strategic location of India, combined with its diverse geographical features such as the Himalayas, the Thar Desert, and numerous river systems, has made it a dominant country in the region.
