Where is the Mariana Trench located?
- ๐๏ธ 8
The Mariana Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean, to the east of the Mariana Islands. It is the deepest part of the world’s oceans, reaching a depth of about 10,994 metres (36,070 feet) at its deepest point, known as the Challenger Deep. The trench was formed by the subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the smaller Mariana Plate. Due to its extreme depth, the trench is a site of scientific interest, containing unique ecosystems that are adapted to extreme pressure and darkness.
