How do plants absorb water from the soil?

  • 👁️ 28

Plants absorb water from the soil through their roots. The process begins when water enters the root hair cells via osmosis, moving from areas of lower to higher concentration of dissolved substances. This water travels through the plant’s vascular tissue, specifically the xylem, and moves upward toward the leaves. Once in the leaves, the water evaporates into the atmosphere through small pores called stomata, a process known as transpiration. This process not only helps plants obtain water but also plays a role in nutrient uptake and temperature regulation.
