How do frogs survive in winter?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 16

Frogs survive winter by entering a state of dormancy, similar to hibernation. Terrestrial frogs burrow into soil or under leaf litter to avoid freezing temperatures, while aquatic frogs settle at the bottom of ponds, where water remains above freezing. Some species, like wood frogs, can survive being partially frozen by producing a natural antifreeze that prevents ice from damaging their cells. This remarkable adaptation allows frogs to endure harsh winters and resume their active lives in spring.
