Why do some animals have night vision?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 39

Night vision in animals is an adaptation that helps them hunt, navigate, and avoid predators in low-light conditions. Animals like owls, bats, and certain species of cats have more rod cells in their retinas, which are sensitive to dim light. This allows them to see well in the dark. Some species, like cats, also have a reflective layer behind their retinas called the tapetum lucidum, which helps maximize the available light. Night vision is particularly useful for nocturnal animals, enabling them to thrive in environments where light is scarce.
