What is the function of chlorophyll in plants?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 6

Chlorophyll is the pigment responsible for the green colour in plants and is vital for photosynthesis. It absorbs sunlight, primarily blue and red wavelengths, and converts this light energy into chemical energy. This energy drives the process of producing glucose from carbon dioxide and water, providing nourishment for the plant. Additionally, chlorophyll releases oxygen as a by-product, contributing to the Earth’s breathable atmosphere. Without chlorophyll, plants could not synthesise their food, and life on Earth would lack a crucial source of energy. This process underpins the entire food chain.
