How do Venus flytraps capture prey?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 5

Venus flytraps have modified leaves that act as snap traps to capture insects. The inner surface of each trap has sensitive hairs; when these hairs are touched twice in quick succession, the trap closes rapidly. This ensures the plant only expends energy on likely prey. Once closed, the trap seals tightly, and digestive enzymes break down the insect into nutrients the plant can absorb. This adaptation allows Venus flytraps to survive in nutrient-poor soils by supplementing their diet with nitrogen and other essentials.
