The world’s largest living coral reef system is the Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Spanning over 2,300 kilometers (1,430 miles), it consists of more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands. It is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, supporting an incredible variety of marine life, including corals, fish, sea turtles, and sharks. Despite its size, the Great Barrier Reef is under threat due to climate change, coral bleaching, and human activity.
