Why do we yawn?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 13

Yawning is a reflex that involves opening the mouth wide and taking a deep breath, often followed by a long exhalation. While its exact purpose isnโ€™t fully understood, yawning is believed to help regulate brain temperature and increase alertness. It may also play a social role, as contagious yawning is common in humans and some animals, such as dogs and chimpanzees. Yawning can occur when someone is tired, bored, or transitioning between levels of alertness. Despite its mysterious origins, yawning is a universal behaviour observed across many species.
