How do sharks sense their prey?

Sharks use several highly developed senses to detect their prey, even in murky waters. Their keen sense of smell is one of the most powerful, capable of detecting blood and other chemicals in concentrations as low as one part per million. Sharks also have electroreceptors called the ampullae of Lorenzini, which can detect the weak electric fields emitted by living creatures. Additionally, sharks have excellent vision and can see well in low-light conditions. Their sense of touch, aided by specialized skin cells called lateral lines, also helps them detect vibrations in the water.
