What causes the Earth’s rotation?
- 👁️ 8
The Earth’s rotation is a result of angular momentum that was acquired during its formation. As the solar system formed from a rotating disk of gas and dust, the material that formed Earth was also rotating. This rotation continued as the planet solidified and still persists today. The Earth’s rotation has slowed over time due to tidal friction caused by the Moon, but it continues to complete one full rotation every 24 hours, causing the cycle of day and night.
