How do whales communicate?
- ๐๏ธ 38
Whales communicate using a variety of vocalizations, including songs, clicks, and calls. These sounds can be heard over long distances and are used for navigation, social interaction, and mating. Baleen whales, like humpback whales, are known for their complex songs, which can last for hours and may change over time. Toothed whales, like dolphins and sperm whales, use echolocation to navigate and locate prey, sending out high-pitched clicks that bounce off objects and return as echoes, helping them form a “mental map” of their surroundings.
