How do narwhals live?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 12

Narwhals are medium-sized whales that live in the Arctic waters of Canada, Greenland, and Russia. They are well adapted to life in cold environments and are often found in ice-covered seas. Narwhals are carnivorous, primarily feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans, which they find by diving to depths of over 1,500 meters. They are known for their long, spiral tusks, which are actually elongated teeth found on males, though the tusks’ function is still debatedโ€”some researchers believe they are used in mating displays or social interactions. Narwhals are social animals and live in groups, often traveling together in pods of 10-20 individuals. They reproduce sexually, with females giving birth to a single calf after a gestation period of 14-15 months. Calves are born in the spring and rely on their mothers for milk until they are old enough to start eating solid food.
