Why do desert plants have shallow roots?

  • ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 11

Desert plants have shallow roots to quickly absorb water from brief rainfall before it evaporates. These roots spread widely just below the soil surface, maximising water collection. Some plants, like cacti, also have deep taproots to access underground water sources. The combination of shallow and deep roots ensures survival in arid conditions, where water is scarce.
